New system for childcare subsidies

Commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW), Amsterdam Bureau for Economics (EBA) developed a new system for financing childcare in the Caribbean Netherlands.

The system follows extensive research into the costs of childcare on Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba that EBA has conducted in recent years. With this new system, the Ministry of SZW can determine the subsidies required for good and accessible childcare. The system that EBA has developed takes into account differences in costs between the three islands and between different types of childcare. With this system, most childcare organizations will benefit financially.

The system is designed in such a way that it is easy to implement. EBA has provided the Ministry of SZW with a financing model with which the required subsidy can be calculated for every childcare organization on the three islands.
