New Purchasing Power Model for Curaçao

Commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) of Curaçao, Economic Bureau Amsterdam (EBA) has developed a purchasing power model.
MEO uses this model to calculate the effects of changes in taxes, benefits, allowances, national insurance contributions, and the minimum wage on the purchasing power of Curaçaoan households. The model also calculates the effects of inflation and wage increases, thus clarifying what additional amount households can spend in the following year.
Last year, EBA provided training to MEO employees on the operation and management of the model. This was followed by a session with various stakeholders and involved parties within the government of Curaçao, who received a presentation on the model’s capabilities.
